How to use the HighQuest series

The
HQ series is designed to be a platform for discipling. It is designed to create a Scriptural
foundation for developing the skills and vision for a lifetime of knowing,
reflecting, and sharing Christ. Each
unit can stand alone, but they are better if grouped in a series. The material is designed to be easily
pass-on-able. The intent is for a person
to be discipled using the series, and then repeat the process with someone
else.
There are several optional ways the HighQuest series can be used depending on how much time you want to commit to the process. We have learned that it takes more than 12 weeks to establish the spiritual habits introduced in HighQuest. This is one reason why the Appointment With God is used in each unit.
One way to think of the HighQuest series is to use it as a core pathway for developing spiritual maturity. We describe the process to maturity as moving from Exploring the gospel, Established in the faith, Equipped for ministry, and Extended to reach others.
Each of these stages needs material that is appropriate for the spiritual age of the person involved. HighQuest was designed to help people in the Establishing, Equipping, and Extending stages. The content of HighQuest is not the only thing a person needs along this journey, but it does give a platform on which to build.
Each HighQuest unit takes about 12 weeks to complete. With that parameter we usually think in terms of a three semester framework that allows for a summer break. Some men will choose to continue through the summer which could create a four semester approach.
What we have found to be most effective is a 2 year approach using three semesters in each year. When a person is mentored through the two year sequence, they can become a mentor to others using the same sequence. This becomes a four year process of going from being discipled to discipling others. (Note Option 1)
We feel a minimum of one unit from each track is essential for a discipling foundation. This gives exposure to each of the primary pursuits of knowing, reflecting, and sharing Christ. When HighQuest is used in a men’s or women’s ministry as a core pathway for discipleship, the whole sequence is presented at the beginning so a person knows what they are being invited into. Sometimes a person may begin the sequence, but because of extenuating circumstances they decide to drop out for a while. Knowing the big picture allows them and the leaders know where they left off and where to resume at a later date.

Option 1: Two Year HighQuest Discipling Sequence

This sequence moves from developing a personal walk with Christ (year one) to investing in others (year two). It also uses two units in each track before moving into the next track. This can be helpful since each track builds on the previous one by introducing additional spiritual disciplines as well as new topics.
This is the most common option for a core discipling platform which can be repeated with each new generation of disciple.

Option 2: One year HighQuest Discipling Sequence

This sequence allows you to sample one unit from each of the three tracks in the series. This sequence can be used to equip leaders who are more mature but need an overview experience before leading their own forum using Option 1 or 3.
Option 3: Three Year HighQuest Discipling Sequence

Option 3 is the most comprehensive method to use the HighQuest series and takes 2-3 years to complete. This option is good for a group who plan on meeting together for a fairly long time.
This option is also helpful with those who are relatively new to the Christian faith and need more time in each track in order to learn and develop the essential spiritual disciplines in that track.
